Noise and Vibrations
EOSH Module 18
Hearing loss caused by work is preventable, but once your hearing has been lost it is an irreversible process. Thousands of people around the world suffer from deafness, ringing in the ears or other ear conditions caused by excessive noise at work. Moreover, hazardous noise can destroy the ability to hear clearly and can also make it more difficult to hear sounds necessary for working safely, such as instructions or warning signals.
Vibration can cause long-term painful damage to hands and fingers. Shocks and jolts from driving certain types of vehicles can cause severe back pain.
This module increases awareness of the risks associated with noise and vibration in the workplace and gives practical information regarding how to perform effective management and control of these risks within the workplace.
