While electricity is a familiar and necessary part of everyday life, electricity is one of the leading causes of death and injuries at work. Not only can it kill or severely injure people, but electricity can cause significant damage to property.
This module covers the key elements to consider when devising safe working practices and is for people who carry out work on or near electrical equipment. It includes practical information for workers who are dealing with electricity in their workplaces and for managers and supervisors who control or influence the design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, maintenance or operation of electrical equipment.
MODULE OBJECTIVES
After completing this module, participants will be aware of:
- what electricity is and general concepts related to electricity
- the direct and indirect effects that electricity can have
- the nature and causes of static electricity
- how to prevent static electricity at work
- the preventive measures to be taken to avoid or reduce the risk of electrical accidents at work
