Harassment and Violence at Work

EOSH Module 22

Everyone should be able to work in a safe and healthy workplace. The workplace should not be a setting where people are subjected to threats of actual violence, harassment or bullying. Violence and its impact can lead to low staff morale, high absenteeism and staff turnover, expensive insurance premiums and possibly compensation payments. This behaviour is unacceptable but unfortunately too many people are exposed to these risks as part of their work. Whilst the incidence varies from one workplace or sector to another, it is a global problem. Every employer is responsible for workplace practice with respect to violence and harassment, including developing and implementing policies and programmes.
