Alcohol and drug use among employees and their family members can be an expensive problem for business and industry, with issues ranging from lost productivity, absenteeism, injuries, fatalities, theft and low employee morale, to an increase in health care, legal liabilities and workers' compensation costs. Unfortunately alcohol misuse costs communities and businesses billions every year. Drug and other substance (e.g. solvent) misuse is everyone's concern. In the context of work, it not only damages the misuser's health, but it can cost employers heavily through absenteeism and reduced productivity, as well as the increased the risk of accidents.
MODULE OBJECTIVES
After completing this module, participants will be aware of:
- the negative effects of taking alcohol, drugs, over-the-counter medicines and herbal preparations
- the risks of the use these substances at work
- the correct workplace policy against drugs and alcohol consumption at work
