Asbestos was long viewed as one of the most versatile minerals because of its flexibility, tensile strength, insulation from heat and electricity, chemical inertness and affordability. Asbestos can be found in any building built before the year 2000 (houses, factories, offices,schools,hospitals, etc) and causes around 5,000 deaths every year. This module covers the issues relating to prevention of risks associated with asbestos-containing materials.
MODULE OBJECTIVES
After completing this module, participants will know:
- what asbestos is and its types
- in which places or activities asbestos can be found
- the risks in the use of asbestos
- that the use of asbestos is prohibited, and the conditions of use in works involving, removing or collecting asbestos
- what to do with suspicious material
